Gray Tree Frog, (Hyla versicolor), Hylidae
- This frog is native to northeastern United States where ponds and streams can freeze all winter long. It survives because its blood sugar forms a kind of an antifreeze. It suspends its breathing and heartbeat so that it can hibernate through the winter. That includes being frozen in the ice of a pond. It comes back to life in the spring thaw.
