Title:: Duomo, Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence, landmark; The gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was erected over the basilica of Santa Reparata designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (construction began in 1296). Brunelleschi completed the work in 1436 with the elegant dome. The interior of the dome was frescoed by Vasari and Zuccari. The final phase was the completion of the facade which dates from the mid 19th century.
