This 19th century canal in Greece is 6.3 kilometers (3.9 milis) in length and connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It swaths a straight cut through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth. The Corinth Canal dissects the Peloponnesian peninsula from the Greek mainland. There are no locks because the cut was made at sea level.

Construction began: 1881
