- The Bingham Canyon Mine is an open-pit mining operation run by the Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation. It is located southwest of Salt Lake City. This is the biggest open pit mine in the world and one of the most productive mines in history. Along with a large porphyry copper deposit, this mine also produces significant amounts of gold, silver and molybednum. It is owned by Rio Tinto Group based in the United Kingdom.
