I forwarded these pics to a close contact of mine who used to work for TWA, and while now in retirement, he has been quite active in all things TWA and Convair 880. This hostess (TWA never called them stewardesses, I have been told) is a good friend of his! Her name is Karen, and was based in ORD at the time this picture was taken. She later married a TWA captain and they later moved to the TW JFK base, before both of them retired. They are now living outside of PDX (Portland, OR). Small world, isn't it? These pics were forwarded (by my contact) to her and her husband, who really enjoyed seeing them. Regarding the comments of 'chuck n marilee' about the 880s speed (great anecdote), I had also heard - from a TWA hostess- that AA 990s and TW 880s would often race. This was a common occurrence on ORD-PHX and ORD-SFO where TW and AA had the Convair jets in competition during the 1960s. The Convairs were notoriously fuel thirsty, especially at high speeds, and legend has it that a TW 880 crossed the runway threshold on landing in a state of very low fuel - the equivalent of your car's fill up warning coming on. Technically, the racing was a violation of FAA rules, but I do believe that the 880s and 990s still hold speed records on some routes.
