- This species of mantid is typically larger than most other mantises, and can reach a size of up to 15 cm (6 inches) in length. They are the largest mantis species in North America (they were introduced in the USA from Asia). Their diet consists primarily of other insects, though adult females can sometimes take down small vertebrate prey such as reptiles and amphibians. Like other mantids, they can be cannibalistic. They can be found in temperate regions.
