Title:: Billboard of Khomeini, Qom, Iran; This city of 780,000 in central Iran is approxiamtely 100 km south of Teheran. Qom is a sacred city for Shi'i Islam and has a golden-domed shrine from the 9th century, built around the shrine of Hazrat- Ma'sumeh, the burial place of Fatima, Imam Reza's sister. Qom is therefore the center of an annual pilgrimage. Qom is best known for its religious university Howzeh-ye-Elmieh. Imam Khomeini is probably the most famous among those who studied and thought theology here. Imam Khomeini was the most famous student and later teacher there.
