- This bridge crosses the Savannah River from Savannah, Georgia to South Carolina. It was completed in November 1990, this cable-stayed bridge replaced the old Talmadge cantilever truss bridge (built in 1953), which had become a danger for large ships entering the port in Savannah, Georgia, the largest single terminal container port on the United States eastern seaboard. The new bridge provides 56.4 meters (185 feet) of vertical navigational clearance. The main span is 335 meters (1100 feet) long with a total length of 3.06 km (1.9 miles). It has 4 lanes of traffic.
