Monument to William McKinley, Saint James Park, San Jose, California
Erected by the citizens of Santa Clara County in memory of William McKinley (1843-1901), the twenty-fifth President of the United States, who spoke of the site in on May 13, 1901. The memorial cost $13,500.
The panels on this monument read: "(on base, left:) "let us remember that our interest is in concord, not conflict, and that our real eminence rests in the victories of peace, not those of war." from his last speech, Buffalo, Sep. 6, 1901. (on base, right:) "the constitution is a sacred instrument; and a sacred trust is given to us to see to it that its preservation in all its virtue and its vigor is passed on to the generations yet to come." spoken on this spot May 13, 1901 (on base, front:) McKinley (on base, rear:) erected by the people of Santa Clara County a. D. 1902"
