Massachusetts State House
- When it was completed in 1798, this building was considered one of the nation?s finest public buildings, and its elegantly proportioned, centralized dome is credited with defining the basic look for capitol buildings in the 34 states to come.
It was designed by Charles Bulfinch, who later helped design the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.. This neoclassical style architecture has a Georgian facade inspired by Somerset House in London. The dome was originally made of copper, provided by Paul Revere, but iwas soon gilded just a few years after completion.
