- The Boeing B-29 bomber Enola Gay dropped the first uranium atomic bomb ever used in warfare and was detonated over the city of Hiroshima. The bomb was named Little Boy (bomb). Three days later the plutonium atom bomb named Fat Man (bomb) was used to bomb the Japanese city of Nagasaki. Today in Hiroshima stands the enduring memorial called "Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park".
