Title:: Dornier DO 31, Twin Engine Jet, Tilt Wing, VTOL, Prototype, milestone of flight, 1967, 1960s; This was Germany's attempt at the tiltwing concept to mitigate the destruction of airports and runways in a war. Amazingly enough this aircraft did fly and proved the concept of a tiltwing, but it was to cumbersome to be practical and the concept was canceled in the late 1960s.
