This remarkable frog weighs in at around 8 grams. They usually grow from 3 to 4.5 cm in length. Their average lifespan is 4-6 years in the wild. It displays a bright blue color scheme that helps stave off potential predators by letting them know they are toxic.
They have glands of poisonous alkaloids located in the skin that paralyze and sometimes kill a predator. The patterns of coloration are unique to each frog. Each frog foot has only four toes that have a suction cup pad at the end and are used for gripping. This frog uniquely has a hunch-backed posture.
This species habitats are found in the forests surrounded by the Sipaliwini savannah, which is in southern Suriname and in the northern to central regions of Brazil.
