Piaseki H-21 Shawnee Flying Banana Helicopter
- The H-21 Shawnee is a tandem rotor chopper that was designed in the 50's for the US Army. It was also used by the French Navy as both an attack helicopter and for transport missions. The West German and Canadian armies acquired this type for supply and support roles. The H-21 saw substantial use during the beginning of the Vietnam War. Its piston engines made this relatively reliable aircraft obsolete by the time turbines were used to power the new line of helicopters that were introduced by the mid 60's. It's odd curved circular shape is what gave this helicopter its name as the Flying Banana.
