Connecting The Dots With Vern

By far, what is the number one issue facing us day in and day out?

Last year (2024), the Earth finally hit that ignominious tipping point of 1.5°C that we have known and been warned about for decades. And there is no end to this complex increase in human-caused warming on this frangible planet. We fly more than ever, we drive more than ever, we ship more than ever, and on and on it goes, with more verve than ever to drill baby drill, they say, and all will be good. Even firetrucks significantly contribute to the burning of fossil fuels, as do computers and the internet, as well as energy production, and more. As we slowly allow this choking morass of overconsumption and unsustainable living to permeate this fragile, tenuous, and precious system we live in. And on and on it goes, as we make our little pictures, write our little words, and live our lives, all pretending we are entitled to our first-world existence with unbridled overconsumption.

Decades ago, we should have motivated our human selves to stop pooping and farting right into the very air we breathe. Slowly, the reality will come into our being that something is amiss. Slowly, not only has its time come, but the opportunity may pass right before our cognitive wisdom as the timing fades away for transforming that which we must. We should prioritize sustainability over all the other issues we care about and commit to our existential well-being now on Spaceship Earth. ... --- ...
