The old pier-7 was damaged beyond safe use in the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. Pier-7 and right next to it Pier-5 were demolished and removed. Funding was found amongst various governmental agencies that raised the $6,568,581 required to build the new pier. It was dedicated in October 1990. This Pier-7 is 840 feet in length and juts out into the bay to reveal impressive views of San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area. Open 24 hours a day. Facilities: Benches, lights, fish cleaning stations and water faucets. Managed by the Port of San Francisco.
