The Richmond-San Rafael Bridge is located in the northern part of San Francisco Bay, California. It is a 5.5-mile cantilever and truss span with a vertical clearance of 185 feet. During the weekdays it carries 60,000 commuters daily between Contra Costa and Marin Counties. Going west it is a magnificent introduction to Marin County, the California Pacific Coast, and the Redwood Empire to the north. It was completed in 1956, with the sale of $62 million in revenue bonds, and a loan of $4.68 million from the State School Land Fund.
