- USS Cobia (SS/AGSS-245), Gato-class submarine, This submarine was named for the cobia, a food fish found in warm waters.
The keel was laid down on 17 March 1943 by Electric Boat Co., Groton, Conn.. It was launched on 28 November 1943 (sponsored by Mrs. C. W.
