Title:: The Egyptian Antiquities Museum of Cairo; The Egyptian Museum was built in Boulak. In 1891, it was moved to the Giza Palace which housed the antiquities and later moved to the present site. The Museum is situated off Tahrir Square in Cairo. It was built under Khedive Abbass Helmi II in 1897 and opened in 1902. It comprises 107 halls. The ground floor houses huge statues while the upper ones house smaller statues, jewels, the Tutankhamun treasures and all mummies. The Museum also has a photography section as well as a large library. The museum has many sections arranged in chronological order: Tutankhamun's treasures, pre-dynasty and the Old Kingdom monuments, first intermediate period and the Middle Kingdom monuments, Modern Kingdom, monuments of the late period and the Greek and Roman periods and a section for coins and papyrus.
