In 1899 a robust fog horn was added. In 1972 this building was made obsolete by a metal tower with a light. It is now a museum open to visitors. Included as a major exhibit is the entire fog horn and the supporting equipment. Well worth a visit.

This lighthouse is situated in Leelanau State Park at the northern tip of the Leelanau Peninsula. It marks the entrance to Grand Traverse Bay from Lake Michigan. This historic site is on the Manitou Shipping Passage.
