This landmark statue was built to commemorate the founding of the German Empire in 1871.
The commanding position of the statue provides incredible views of the Rhine gorges.

There is an inscription written under the monument that reads as follows: "ZUM ANDENKEN AN DIE EINMUETHIGE SIEGREICHE ERHEBUNG DES DEUTSCHEN VOLKES UND AN DIE WIEDERAUFRICHTUNG DES DEUTSCHEN REICHES 1870-1871." Translated it reads: ("In memory of the unanimous victorious uprising of the German People and of the reinstitution of the German Empire 1870-1871").
