Title:
Granite Rock Co. Oil fired 0-6-0T engine originaly built for the U.S. Army, Sacramento
This is an oil fired 0-6-0T steam engine built for the USA Army, as their number 5001, by Porter Locomotive Works in October of 1942. This particular steamer saw military service in California at the Tracy Army Depot before being sold to the Granite Rock Corporation. Granite Rock used the engine in their Watsonville quarry site, south of San Jose, until 1963 or 1964 when it was put on display in front of the rock quarry. This steam locomotive was officially donated to the Sacramento museum in 1995 and restored to operation in 1997.
