Wawona Tunnel, Highway-41
- The Wawona Tunnel was constructed in 1933. It carries Highway-41 through it. It is 1,290 meters (4,233 feet) long. An engineering feat at its time, this tunnel included power lines, carbon monoxide sensors and high-speed fans. It took nearly two years to drill the tunnel. Workers used 275 tons of blasting power, permitting the workers to progress about 20 feet a day.
