This magnificent bridge was dedicated August 27, 1966. The length of this bridge is 4.1 miles and it has a main span of 1,232 feet in length, making it the longest continuous truss in the world. The Astoria Megler bridge connects Point Ellice Washington in the north, then crosses the mouth of the Columbia River to Astoria, Oregon. It is part of the amazing coastal Highway known as US 101.

The bridge is designed to withstand wind gusts of 150 miles per hour and the concrete piers are built to withstand a river flood speed of nine miles per hour including the ability to absob the energy of whole trees floating by. I always enjoy driving over this bridge as it climbs steeply to its apex so that it can accomodate ocean going ships, also you get great views at the top of the drive.
